This course will enable a boater to understand the factors influencing wind, waves and changing visibility while navigating along the coast of Maine. In addition, the course will cover how to interpret various weather maps and forecasting tools to plan a safe voyage.
In this course, you will learn:
1. What causes weather
2. The drivers of high and low pressure systems, types of weather fronts and conditions associated with each
3. How to identify clouds and the weather conditions they bring
4. What causes local weather phenomena: fog, thunderstorms and waves
5. How to interpret surface and high level charts to forecast weather conditions
6. How to utilize weather apps, websites and other resources to better predict weather conditions
