Arts on Fire

For ages 9–12, this class gives pre-teens the chance to explore painting and drawing in a fun, supportive space. Each week they’ll complete a finished artwork while experimenting with new styles and techniques — building confidence, creativity, and a strong foundation for future Portfolio Track classes if they choose to continue in a more structured and progressive manner.

What They’ll Learn

In this 9-week course, students will:

• Explore both painting and drawing through a variety of engaging weekly projects
• Experiment with different artistic styles, from realism to abstract
• Learn beginner-level techniques such as shading, layering, and perspective basics
• Create a finished piece of art every week to take home and share

Why It Matters

Youth Art is about cultivating their skillsets in painting and drawing in a less structured way. At this stage, kids are eager to discover what kind of art resonates with them, and this class gives them a safe space to try new mediums, push their creativity, and gain confidence without the pressure of perfection. It’s an ideal stepping stone before students decide whether to pursue more structured Portfolio Track classes.

End Experience

Students will finish the course with nine works of art that reflect a wide range of techniques and styles. Together, these pieces create a personal mini-collection that celebrates experimentation and growing artistic confidence. Students will be well prepared to attend Foundation level Portfolio Track courses, or continue to explore in Youth Art courses next session.

Instructor bio

Led by Lida Kamaluddin, a professionally trained art educator who guides students through the entire creative process with patience and encouragement. Lida’s work has been purchased and displayed in museums, and she has held several gallery shows, bringing real-world artistic experience into the classroom. Her calm, supportive teaching style ensures every student feels confident as they create.
