Fashion Lab Day: Cardboard Couture Tote

Location: Columbus Fashion Academy Studio (Downtown)
Ages: 7–14 (mixed ages welcome) • Skill level: Beginner–Intermediate
Tuition: $75 (all materials included, but please feel free to bring your branded specific cardboard or fabric to use)

Make a statement bag that’s good for the planet.
Bring your favorite food or drink boxes (cereal, cookies, soda, sparkling water—clean and flattened) and we’ll transform that cardboard into a one-of-a-kind tote—big or small—by fusing packaging with textiles. It’s a bold, sustainable design that blends upcycle + recycle into one super-fun project you’ll take home the same day.

What we’ll do

• Design your tote shape and size
• Prep and stabilize cardboard panels
• Combine panels with fabric for structure + style
• Machine sew the body, straps, and lining
• Add finishing touches (pockets, trims, labels)

What to bring (optional)

• Clean, flattened cardboard packaging you love (logos/colors you want on your bag)
• A short list of color vibes you love (we’ll guide fabric choices)

We provide

• Fabrics, interfacing, thread, trims, hardware
• Sewing machines, tools, and safety guidance
• Extra packaging if you don’t have any—no worries!

New to the machine?
You’re covered. Our sustainable fashion design team will be in-studio to coach each step.
