Ready to bring your imagination to life? In this dynamic STEAM stop-motion animation workshop, you'll be guided through the entire creative process, from sculpting your own pop-culture characters, animals, vehicles, objects out of clay, creating a wondrous animated short film. It's a perfect blend of artistic creation, storytelling, and pure, expression.

What You'll Discover

• The Art of Creation: You'll sculpt your own unique characters out of clay, giving life to your creative ideas.
• The Animator's Spell: We'll teach you the fundamentals of stop-motion, from subtle movements to high-energy action sequences. You'll also learn the secret of visual storytelling, including storyboarding, dynamic camera angles, and dramatic lighting to create the perfect mood.
• The Spirit of Collaboration: You'll work with other young animators to bring your epic story to life as a team. We'll show you how to use software to add credits, sound effects and music, to complete your animated masterpiece.

Schedule

• 9:00 am: Intro, storyboarding, character building
• 11:00 am: Break
• 11:15 am: Software and animate
• 12:30 pm: Lunch Break
• 1:00 pm: Video editing, soundtracks, sound effects, and credits
• 2:15 pm: Break
• 2:30 pm: Export movies and prepare for screening
• 3:00 pm: The Grand Premiere: Parents are invited to a screening of the final films

What to Bring

• Snacks, a nut-free lunch and water bottle to keep your energy up.
• Tablet: An iPad running iPadOS 14.0 or later, or tablet
• Software:
  • For the best experience, we recommend downloading the Stop Motion Studio Pro App ($10). It offers all the advanced features—like editing and sound effects to bring your imagination to life. A free version is also an option, but some features we demonstrate may not be available.
• iMovie or Capcut video editing software.

Note: if you are attending as a group of friends, each group will be using one tablet (purchasing software for each device is not required).

Groups

We structure the animation teams to maximise every participant's hands-on experience and involvement.

For the best engagement and to ensure every child has ample opportunity to direct, sculpt, and animate, we recommend teams of two. A group of three is the absolute maximum permitted. If you come with a larger group of four or more, you will be split into smaller teams to allow each student full participation in creating their own short film.
