ROC-M VHF Maritime Radio
This is a one-day, in-person class and is intended for boat operators enrolled in ECRC's responder training program.
Students will receive a link (before the class date) to access the Maritime Radio Course review questions. On the day of the class, students will be provided with a printed textbook and there will be a written/oral examination at the end of the course. If the student passes the examination they will receive a temporary certificate and a card will be mailed to them (usually within 60 days).
Topics covered will include:
- Emergency VHF skills
- Daily use techniques
- Radio terms
- Advanced technologies
- Phonetic alphabet
- Radio operations
- Choosing frequencies
- Digital Selective Calling (DSC)
Students will be expected to study the review questions before the course date as there is too much material to cover during the class. Special attention should be given to learning the Phonetic Alphabet and the various types of voice calls.
The final examination will consist of 60 multiple choice questions and 3 oral questions.
Lunch will be provided by ECRC. Please notify us ahead of time with any dietary restrictions or food allergies.
This course is held under the authority of CanBoat (Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons) and Transport Canada.
