Mixed Media Pattern Making - Summer Camp (Full Day)
Mixed Media Patternmaking - Fashion Summer Camp
June 22–26 • 9:30am–3:30pm • Ages 10–15 • Downtown Studio (CCAD Campus)
Step into the architect’s side of fashion. This immersive week-long camp invites young makers to explore the hidden engineering behind beautiful garments—using magazines and newspapers, campers will be learning patternmaking, pleating, darting, shaping, and structure-building. Students discover how designers turn flat materials into expressive, wearable art.
Working in youth size, campers will draft patterns, experiment with volume, create sculptural pleats, and play with mixed-media materials. Some projects blend fabric with newspapers, magazines, and collage techniques to create imaginative one-of-a-kind designs that will walk down the runway.
Along the way, students practice sewing, hand-finishing, embellishing, and constructing garments that express their vision. Every camper works at their own pace, supported by caring instructors who value creativity, curiosity, and the joy of learning how things are built.
On Friday at 3:00pm, families are invited to a Showcase, where students present their designs and share the process behind their creations. Any wearable garment created during the week will also be invited to walk the big Fall Runway Show—a celebration of creativity and courage.
This camp is perfect for fashion lovers who are curious and adore details, structure, and the “how does this work?” side of design. It blends art and engineering, imagination and technique, storytelling and craftsmanship—all through CFA’s signature values of sustainability, artistic freedom, and hands-on learning.
