2-Hour After School Program: Stop-Motion Filmmaking
Bring Your Ideas to Life Through Stop Motion Filmmaking
We start with what YOUR child already loves—demon hunters, dinosaurs, superheroes, their world—and turn it into something they create.
In this hands-on stop motion workshop, kids are guided through the complete filmmaking process: sculpting characters from clay, storyboarding their narrative, animating frame-by-frame, and editing their finished film. It's creativity, storytelling, and achievement in one experience.
Your 9-Week Filmmaking Journey (2 hours per week)
Weeks 1-2: Story & Setup You'll learn how animation actually works and discover different stop motion techniques—claymation, LEGO, figurines, paper cutouts, your favourite small objects. Then you'll team up with one or two other filmmakers to brainstorm your story idea, create a storyboard, and plan your shots. You'll also get hands-on with the iPads, software, and filming equipment.
Weeks 3-4: Build Your World Time to bring your story to life! You'll sculpt your characters and props from clay, build your sets and backgrounds, and experiment with lighting to create the right mood for your film.
Weeks 5-7: Lights, Camera, Animate This is where the magic happens. Working frame-by-frame, you and your team will animate your 60-second story. You'll learn techniques for smooth movement, dramatic action sequences, and camera tricks that make your film more dynamic.
Weeks 8-9: Edit & Premiere Now it's your turn to make the film your own. Each filmmaker edits their own version of the footage you created together—adding your personal choice of titles, credits, music, and sound effects. In the final session, you'll showcase your completed film.
What You'll Take Home
Your own 60-second animated film (digital video file) that you conceptualised, built, animated, and edited from start to finish.
Team Structure
For maximum hands-on engagement, we organise participants into teams of two (three maximum). This ensures every child gets to direct, sculpt, and animate their own scenes. Groups of four or more will be split into smaller teams so each student creates their own short film.
Note: If attending as a group of friends, teams share one tablet (one app purchase per group is sufficient).
