TERM 1 Musical Theatre: TEENS Years 7-12 Thursdays: KILLARA (8 Classes)

Discover Musical Theatre with MSTYP - a new class for secondary students!

Develop creativity, confidence, and collaboration through the art of musical theatre. Each week, students work with a professional Teaching Artist to explore acting, singing, and movement in a supportive, creative environment.

From learning musical theatre techniques and stagecraft to exploring text, song interpretation, improvisation, and ensemble performance, students are encouraged to find their unique voice and work together to bring stories to life on stage. This class nurtures self-confidence and a deep understanding of what it means to be a musical theatre performer.

Skills we will learn together

  • Exploring musical theatre techniques and understanding how song, dance, and theatrical conventions shape storytelling onstage
  • Applying creative thinking and problem-solving to develop compelling characters and dynamic scenes,
  • Building emotional intelligence by exploring characters’ psychology, motivations, relationships, and how these inform song and performance choices
  • Expanding versatility and spontaneity through improvisation, ensemble work, and risk-taking in acting, singing, and movement
  • Strengthening collaboration skills by working effectively in ensembles, negotiating ideas, and supporting fellow performers in song and scene work
  • Developing confidence and stage presence through rehearsal discipline, performance practice, and clear, expressive communication
  • Using voice and body with technical control and expressive range, including singing technique, diction, projection, physicality, spatial awareness, and dance/movement choices
