2 Day Workshop: Faceting, Fluting, and Texturing Clay w/ Alex Olson 

Saturday January 17th 2-6pm and Sunday January 18th 9am-6pm

Location: 8063 Se 17th Ave, Portland, OR 97202

This two-day workshop will focus on faceting, fluting, and texturing techniques that introduce

geometric, organic, and tactile qualities to wheel-thrown pots. Alex will demonstrate how he

makes his signature bowls, yunomi, and bud vases, and discuss what informs and inspires his

pottery. With time to practice and experiment, participants will gain a thorough understanding

of the important variables to consider and explore when carving clay. Students are encouraged

to bring their favorite throwing and carving tools, as well as objects to use as texturing tools,

such as shells, leaves, and stones.
