Arts Experience at Loyalist

Course Overview: What’s old is new again! Gouache—used by manuscript artists as early as the 1500s and favoured by 18th-century painters, 20th-century illustrators, and poster artists—has made a vibrant comeback. Fast-drying, easily portable, and brilliantly opaque, gouache is perfect for travel sketching or studio work. In this course, you’ll explore gouache’s unique properties: painting light over dark, creating solid colour blocks, and achieving a velvety matte finish that photographs beautifully. Through demonstrations and individual guidance, you’ll paint colourful landscapes using both reference photos provided and your own.

The workshop is ideal for beginners and intermediate painters, and a great way for experienced artists to expand their toolkit. Techniques learned will also transfer to acrylic, oil, and traditional watercolour.

• All materials are provided.
• This course takes place at the Belleville Campus: 376 Wallbridge Loyalist Rd, Belleville, ON K8N 5B9
• HST is included in the price.
• Campus information, including room number, parking, directions, etc., will be provided closer to the start date.
• A refund (less $20.00 administrative fee) will be issued if you withdraw from a class at least seven days before the start date of the class. After this deadline, no refunds will be issued.
• If a course is cancelled by Loyalist College, registered students will be provided with a full refund. College decisions to cancel a course will be made one week before the start date of the class.
