What are these two rates?

Our conference budget accounts for actual cost per person, but it also accounts for the value we place on making scholarly engagement possible for those with limited budgets, such as graduate students or underemployed scholars. To that end, the "Regular Registration" rate is not high enough to offset the cost of the subsidized registration rate we offer.

We are introducing "True cost registration," which reflects a dollar amount that does help to offset the cost of subsidizing our colleagues' registration fees.

We ask that you use your discretion in choosing the rate that is appropriate and comfortable for you, particularly in light of your own institution's ability to reimburse your conference travel (or not).
