Fundamentals of Supervising the Peer Recovery Professional (20 hrs)
We are excited to offer a comprehensive Peer Supervision Training curriculum! This course provides individuals in supervisory roles with the opportunity to explore methodologies to best utilize peer supervision competencies and standards for the peers they manage. The “Fundamentals of Supervising the Peer Recovery Professional” training that RecoveryTech & TRB Connections provide satisfies the New York Certification Board’s (NYCB) 20-hour foundational education training requirements for their newest certification, the Peer Supervision Professional (PSP). Anyone interested in peer services, including supervisors of peer workers, can now participate in training on the PSP role.
FROM THE NYCB: Peer Supervision Professional (PSP) - PSP is not a peer certification. It is for professionals from any practice background who supervise peers. Peer Supervision is a professional and collaborative activity between a supervisor and a worker in which the supervisor provides guidance and support to the worker to promote competent and ethical service delivery and support through the continuing development of the worker’s application of accepted professional peer work knowledge, skills, and values.
Supervision provides an opportunity to support peer workers (Recovery Coaches, CRPAs, and CARCs) in the delivery of quality behavioral health services, professional development, and support. Supervisors support peer worker’s professional and personal objectives by helping them focus on their role competencies, accountable practices, personal supports, ethical practices, and continued professional development. This training will provide current, in-depth, cutting-edge protocols related to Peer Supervision.
This course is derived from the foundational training for best practices for the “Supervision of Peer Workers” developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Supervision focuses on the interactions between supervisor and supervisee to promote effective practice. Supervision aims to build on the strengths and successes of the Peer Worker and address areas for improvement.
