Kiln Formed Glass – Fusing and Slumping by Kirei Samuel
Course Overview: As spring approaches, step into the vibrant world of fused glass and create pieces that bring colour, light, and personality to your home and garden. With a rich palette of over 40 colours to choose from—working with sheet glass, powders, frit, and decorative inclusions—you’ll explore the endless creative possibilities of this luminous medium. The course begins with the creation of a small dish, allowing you to learn essential fusing techniques and build confidence working with glass. From there, you’ll design and create a standing glass garden ornament—an expressive, one-of-a-kind piece made to catch the light outdoors and add a handcrafted focal point to your spring garden or patio.
On the second day, you’ll expand your skills by creating a larger bowl and learning how to use SilkeMat, a safe and easy-to-handle material, to form a custom mould for a plate. Along the way, you’ll gain an understanding of kiln operation and firing principles, empowering you to execute your projects with intention, precision, and finesse. By the end of the course, you’ll leave with multiple finished glass pieces—including a unique garden feature—along with the knowledge and inspiration to continue exploring fused glass beyond the studio.
