ADAPTING MUSIC FOR STUDENTS WITH EXTENSIVE PHYSICAL AND/OR COGNITIVE SUPPORT NEEDS IN SCHOOLS, HOPSITALS, OR HOMES
Course Prerequisite: Total Beginner Uke prior to, or concurrent with, this workshop
In this 4 session workshop, you will learn to lead musical SEL and kindness-boosting activities, games, and purposeful songs for teaching groups of students of all ages. For any educator who has not had the benefit of a classroom teaching artist residency with GITC, this short series will empower you to facilitate music calmly and successfully, with intention. The approach supports student self-regulation, listening, making strong choices, sharing, teamwork, collaboration, patience, positive self-talk, courage, confidence, and agency! Learn from GITC’s founder, Jess Baron, based on the work she and GITC faculty members have been developing in California classrooms for the past 25 years.
