Lent is a time when Christians come together to try and make sense of Jesus’ time trying to get the disciples to understand who he is and why he is here. He does this through parables or storytelling. As we know, Jesus often does not state the obvious, but invites us into a time of imagination, imagery, and meaning making, so that we can apply his teachings to our own personal lives. It is time for us to gather and to celebrate the journey towards the Lord’s Resurrection at Easter. One of the ways we can do this is through listening and reading Sacred Scripture together as a community. Special services begin on February 18th, 2026, Ash Wednesday at 2:30 PM which includes imposition of ashes on the forehead. The ashes symbolize our frailty, and mortality, and that one day we will all return to dust. Also, we have the need to seek how we should show up in the world, based on the teachings of Jesus.

Beginning on Monday, March 30th, 2026, the day after Palm Sunday, Chaplain Grace will facilitate informal “Holy Week” readings daily in Kortz Hall at 2:30 PM. These readings are a compilation of the New Testament accounts of Jesus’ final days. Congregants are invited to read along and participate in the services each day through Good Friday, April 3rd.
