Fundamentals of Wood Turning
Full Detailed Description
This is a beginning Turning course of six 2 hour classes. There will be an emphasis on lots of practice sharpening and turning. Basic concepts to be covered are safety, harvesting a tree, processing the wood from the tree, and storing of wood.
The following topics will be covered : spindle turning, making a center finding jig, use of chucks, faceplates/faceplate turning, sanding and finishing will also be discussed. Design and form will be emphasized at each class.
Tools needed:
Spindle and roughing gouge, spindle gouge, bowl gouge, skew chisel, parting tool, and bowl scrapper. (Harbor Frieght has 2 starter set available: less expensive has short handles and tempered steel and the more expensive is better and has high speed steel).
Ed Golden will be assisting Stan.
