Unlock the art of spontaneous song in this four week dynamic workshop designed for both experienced improvisers and music theater performers. This class demystifies the process of creating original songs on the spot, blending the core principles of improvisation with practical performance techniques. Students will learn foundational song structures and explore the mechanics of effortless rhyming to build lyrical confidence. Through supportive exercises and ensemble work, participants will practice improvisational singing, focusing on melody generation, lyrical clarity, and emotional authenticity. With an emphasis on collaboration and play, we will overcome the fear of the 'blank page' and co-create compelling, coherent musical scenes that will range from silly to profound."
About Your Instructor: Stuart Ranson has been performing, writing, and teaching music and improv comedy since 1997. He completed the training programs of The Second City, Annoyance Theater, and Improv Olympic. In addition to performing with The Second City National Touring Company, and being a founding member of internationally renowned music improv troupe Baby Wants Candy, Stuart has also performed in New York with the Magnet Theater and the People’s Improv Theater. As a faculty member of The Second City Training Center, he taught improv from the beginning to conservatory levels, sketch writing, storytelling, music improv, and youth/teen courses. Stuart is currently the Executive Director of Swell Improv
