Show Description

When Will and his loyal, goofy dog are barred into an abandoned house by a horde of flesh-eating zombies, there’s no place to go but into the past. Wracked with furious grief after losing his lover, takin0g this out in toxic codependence with Dog, and confronted with a new survivor who will not let any cruelty slide, Will must learn to respect the autonomy of others or lose everyone he loves.
The Dog Doesn’t Die jumps back and forth between the end of one doomed relationship and the beginning of a new one. It is a tense one-act drama interspersed with moments of genuine humor and optimism from a dog who must believe in the good in this devastating world.

Roles

Note: Trans/nonbinary actors are encouraged to audition for any/all roles!
WILL (he/him)
Roughly early 30s; any race/ethnicity.Lonely, brooding, and creative. Having been just 26 when the virus hit, he is emotionally stunted. He cares for others' material needs but desires control to quell his own helplessness. He thinks his way is the only way.
DOG (they/them)
8-year-old German Shepard mix; open to human actors of any race/gender.A "golden retriever" personality: fiercely loyal, obedient, curious, and optimistic. They see the world through a silly, loving lens but are deeply codependent with Will, beaten down by their inequality.
BLAKE (she/her)
20s-30s; any race/ethnicity.A brilliant documentarian. Sharp, quick-witted, patient, and a great listener. She reflects the truth back at people through her camera lens or stories from her filming experience.
C (any pronouns)
20s; any race/ethnicity.A scrappy survivor who takes no sh*t. Wracked with guilt over their siblings' deaths, they have a tough shell and appalling frankness that hides a genuinely caring, inventive MacGyver-like survivor underneath.
