Flower Collage
This is an improvisational raw-edge collage class. You'll work from photos of real flowers, create your own drawings based on abstractions of them, and then cut out pieces without patterns. Then you'll arrange the pieces, tack them down on the background with diluted school glue, and free-motion quilt the piece (layered with interfacing and batting). An easy, fun, no-worries class.
Work from one of my flower photos provided in the supply list, or bring a photo as inspiration. (Just make sure to e-mail it to me at least a week before class to make sure that it will work!)
While I will give instructions and demonstrate how to machine stitch your piece, you may choose to work on the design of your piece the entire time, if you don't want to bring your sewing machine.
IMPORTANT: You need to bring some supplies with you. Please download the supply list in PDF format here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IfuBw2AaxolZflca5d3s1xICnAu5QTwE/view?usp=sharing – it contains more information, samples, and a list of supplies you need to bring. If you have problems downloading it, just e-mail me and I'll send it to you directly.
LOCATION: Old Murphey School, 3717 Murphey School Road, Durham, NC. Triangle Fiber Arts Guild, Classroom #3
ABOUT OLD MURPHEY SCHOOL: The classroom is in a restored early 1900s school building, with parking in the front gravel lot. We will take a half hour break for lunch. Please bring your own lunch and drinks/water bottle, as there is no nearby fast food. There is a refrigerator for lunches. The classroom has folding chairs with padded seats; you may be more comfortable sitting all day if you bring an additional cushion. Consider bringing a light sweater, if you tend to get chilly in air conditioning.
