Learn the basics of creating wholecloth painted quilts based on photos. Students can choose from the two projects shown (sheep and chicken), and will work from line drawings and my photos to recreate the image using acrylic textile paints. Afraid to try this technique? Don’t be! My students get great results. We will cover selecting the right photos for great results; which paints and fabrics to use and why; how to transfer your design to fabric; painting and blending techniques; and quilting considerations. This class is a great way to learn the basics so you can work from your own photos the next time. I'll bring a lot of samples of my wholecloth painted work, and answer your questions about them. NOTE: No sewing machine work. You'll go home with a painted piece ready to quilt.

IMPORTANT: The class fee includes fabric, pattern paint and brushes, but you need to bring some supplies with you. ABOUT OLD MURPHEY SCHOOL: The classroom is in a restored early 1900s school building, with parking in the front gravel lot. We will take a half hour break for lunch. Please bring your own lunch and drinks/water bottle, as there is no nearby fast food. There is a refrigerator for lunches. The classroom has folding chairs with padded seats; you may be more comfortable sitting all day if you bring an additional cushion. Consider bringing a light sweater, if you tend to get chilly in air conditioning.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: All – 15 years or older

CANCELLATION POLICY: If you cancel before noon EST on Feb. 15, 2026, a refund will be made minus a $10 processing fee. If you cancel after this date, you will not receive a refund unless the slot can be filled with someone on the waiting list. If the slot can be filled, you'll be issued the refund, minus a $10 processing fee.
