Handplane Use and Blade Sharpening
Maximum Students: 2
Duration: 2.5 hrs
Prerequisites: None (Just patience, an open mind, and a desire for perfection over ease of production)
Hand planes are used to flatten stock, square pieces for assembly, profile and shape edges, moldings, and grooves.
In the same way that a standard transmission puts you in 'touch' with your car's engine, a well-tuned handplane lets you 'feel' the wood you are shaping. You know that snipe or torn grain you get on the planer? The hand plane removes it! You want to flatten large boards for a table top? Use a jointer plane! Do you want the satisfaction of taming a beautiful piece of tiger maple to a glass like finish? Use a well-tuned smoothing plane!
This course shows you how to set-up, tune, sharpen, and use these indispensable tools. Each class will make parts of a saw bench/seat for the woodshop. And you'll get a workout while doing it!
