Thriving in the Next Chapter: A Post-Tenure Cohort, Fall 2026
This cohort is designed for faculty who have earned tenure (and teaching faculty who have been promoted) as an opportunity to reflect on meaningful goals, renewed purpose, and the next phase of their professional lives.Tenure and promotion mark significant milestones — but they also can raise new questions about purpose, direction, impact, and balance. Through structured reflection and conversation with colleagues, participants will clarify meaningful goals, reconnect with what matters most in their work, and shape intentional plans for a thriving next chapter.
While the program will support faculty members who are contemplating promotion to full professor, its larger goal is to encourage faculty thriving in mid-career, whatever that might look like for each individual participant. We envision participants will have 6-10 years’ experience at UR, but anyone who believes this experience could be valuable is welcome to apply.
The cohort will meet 4 times over the course of the semester for 75 minutes. Participants will also have an opportunity to take part in a one-on-one consultation with program facilitators.
Time commitment: Participants are expected to attend all four meetings (to the best of their ability) and to complete short homework assignments (roughly 1 hour each) in between sessions.
Program Facilitators:
Jon Dattelbaum, Professor of Chemistry, Associate Dean, Division III, A&S
Patricia Herrera, Professor of Theatre and Dance, Associate Dean, DEIB, A&S
Kitty Maynard, Director, Faculty Hub
