Advanced Sailing Instructor
- Qualified to Deliver:
- Advanced Boat Handling
- Adventure
- Start Racing
- Kites & Wires
- Coastal Navigation for Small Boats (Shorebased)
- Minimum Age: 17 years
- Requirements:
- Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 (Basic Awareness) Certificate
- Garda Vetting Clearance (via Irish Sailing)
- Valid First-Aid Certificate
- Irish Sailing Membership (direct or via Home Club)
- Valid SBSS Instructorship
- 20 days logged instructing, including 5-days of Improving Skills
- Submission of an Improving Skills Course Programme
- Submission of an Improving Skills Shorebased Session
- Submission of an Improving Skills Waterbased Session
- Safety Boat Certificate
Submission of personal Sailing CV including;
- x6 sessions with active handling of both symmetric and asymmetric spinnakers
- x6 sessions in $\ge$ 18 knots wind
- x6 sessions in alternative craft, across at least 3; cruisers, tall ships, sailability/adaptive sailing, traditional rigs, windsurfing, winging
- x12 races logged at club or open-event level
- x2 events supporting onboard Committee Boat
- x20 hours logged powerboating providing mark-laying/safety boat duties
- x3 day sails, each $\ge$ 5 hours underway
- x1 documented passage plan, linked to one of the above day sails
- Course Details: 4-8 Candidates, delivered by an appropriate Instructor Trainer
- Certificate Validity: 5 years (will also revalidate all existing SBSS Instructorships)
- Course Duration: 4-day practical course

Medical Conditions
You must inform in advance if the participant has any know medical conditions, special needs and or behavior considerations that we should be aware of and or that would impact there ability to participate safely in all the activities.
Equipment
Buoyancy aids are provided by GBSC. Wetsuits are available however if sailors have their own wetsuits and boots, that is preferable for their own comfort.
Footwear
Sandals, Flip Flops, Crocs or other similar open shoes are NOT recommended.
We recommend Runners, Aqua Shoes or Wetsuit Boots.
On the Day
Please bring:
- Your own wetsuit (if you have one) booties or old runners
- Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses.
- Towel, change of socks / underwear.
- Warm dry clothing for when you come out of the water.
- A notebook and pen/pencil (for coursework).
- Lunch each day (if your course runs for the full day), water, hot drink.
Jewellery
We advise against wearing of jewellery, rings, necklaces etc. during courses as they can be either lost, become entangled and/or lead to injury.
Lost, found or stolen
Items left behind will be kept for a period of two week and if not claimed may be disposed of or repurposed thereafter.
The GBSC cannot accept responsibility for any items lost, stolen or damaged.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
All cancellations by the customer must be made in writing by email or by phone to Galway Bay Sailing Club.
Cancellations received more than four (4) weeks prior to the course commencement date will be refunded in full.
Cancellations received between four (4) weeks and seven (7) days prior to the course commencement date will be eligible for a 50% refund.
Cancellations received within seven (7) days of the course start date are non-refundable, as instructor, vessel and safety resources will already have been committed.
