The Virginia Community Health Worker Association (VACHWA) invites you to join our VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program—a meaningful opportunity to support families, strengthen financial wellness, and grow your professional capacity.

Our Goal

Ultimately, VACHWA’s goal is to ensure our workforce is equipped, confident, and responsive—ready to meet the 21st-century needs of our communities through trusted, culturally responsive, and people-centered service.

Through this program, volunteers receive training that prepares them to serve in multiple roles, including:

• Greeter / Screener
• Tax Return Preparer
• Quality Reviewer
• Marketing & Outreach Support
• Translator / Interpreter
• Volunteer Coordinator & Recruiter

Whether you are a Community Health Worker, student, professional, or community advocate, this experience equips you with practical skills, federal training credentials, and real-world service experience that translate across careers in public health, social services, nonprofit leadership, finance, and community engagement.

Volunteer Sites & Hosting Opportunities

• Our primary VITA site will be located in Richmond, VA
• We also offer local and virtual events
• Volunteers may host VITA services in their region, pending minimum requirements and approval

This flexible model allows us to expand access while meeting communities where they are.
