Beginners Te Reo Maaori, Level 1, Te Reo Teina

Mondays, starting the Monday 2nd February

6pm - 8.30pm

If you are searching for a place to begin your Te Reo journey, then this is the space for you.

Kei ngaa kaakano ki wiiwii, ki waawaa e hemokai ana moo too taatou nei reo rangatira, nau mai, kake mai, haere mai raa ki teenei haerenga reo Maaori, kia ruumakitia ko te kaakano.

To the seeds near and far that are starving and desiring Te Reo Maaori to envelope them, to surround them and to uplift them, come, join our Te Reo Maaori journey at NGĀ ART.

Ruumakitia ko te kaakano will focus on conversational & social learning settings and styles to better instill our language the same it was taught by our tuupuna, orally. This will be done through mihimihi, waiata, karakia and an overall focus to koorero than bookwork.

I, Koro Witehira, will be your kaiako for this haerenga. I am deeply passionate about Te Reo Maaori and even more so about teaching it and cannot wait to meet you all as we embark on this journey together!

Kei aku nui, kei aku rahi, teenaa raa koutou katoa.

This course is available to persons 16 years and over.

During this course we will study the following:

    • Learn basic Te Reo Maaori and tikanga in a relaxed and safe space.
    • Learn basic waiata.
    • Learn common saying, phrases, greetings and emotions.
    • More sentences structures. Learning to understand tone, context, and uses of the different structures.
    • Using all learnt knowledge into making a puuraakau for our class, to act as a motif for future learning.

As a not-for-profit organisation, NGĀ ART (Te Whare Toi o Ngaaruawaahia) relies on grants, community funding, and donations to keep our classes affordable and accessible for everyone in our community. This programme is generously subsidised thanks to funding support from TEC (Tertiary Education Commission) to assist with literacy and numeracy needs of our participants. You must attend 80% of the classes. At the same time we hope you will learn other useful and interesting skills and have a lot of fun learning with us.
