This course teaches the mandatory curriculum for receiving a NC Concealed Carry Class Certificate which is required to apply for a NC CCH permit. Along with the mandatory information regarding the legal use of force and basic handgun maintenance and shooting techniques, we go a bit deeper and cover additional topics such as the role of less lethal tools and the legal issues pertaining to third party encounters. We will also cover the principles of both 'Stand your Ground' and 'Castle Doctrine' statutes and a brief history of self defense law in the United States.
Prerequisites: None, although a general knowledge of safe firearms handling will be helpful.
Range fees, a loaner pair of high-quality electronic hearing protection, eye protection (for you to keep), and the cost of a loaner handgun with ammunition are all included in the class tuition.
While it is my mission to help you succeed, I cannot guarantee successful completion of both the written exam and the shooting qualification.

While we will cover the rules of firearm safety, the basics of operating a handgun, and general handgun maintenance this class is not focused on shooting. This is a class focused on the legal use of deadly force in North Carolina with a shooting qualification. In order to receive credit for this class, students must pass a written exam and a shooting qualification at ranges of 3, 5, and 7 yards. Failure to pass the written exam or the shooting qualification as set by the NC Dept of Justice will result in course failure. Registration costs are NOT refundable or transferable due to failure but you may contact Union Defense LLC for remedial opportunities after class.
Students will need a pistol and 30 rounds of factory ammunition. High quality electronic hearing and eye protection will be provided. Defensive caliber handguns (9mm, .40 S&W, .380, etc.) are recommended. If you do not have your own handgun, I strongly recommend AGAINST purchasing a handgun specifically for this class. The cost of a loaner handgun and ammunition to shoot your qualification are INCLUDED in the tuition.
