[member-only] Sewing Machines: Basic Use & Safety

Learn how to not break our sewing machines! This class will familiarize you with the equipment available in the sewing area at FatCat, teach you the correct (and safe) way to use it, and give you some hands-on practice sewing.

In this class, we will focus sewing with our domestic sewing machines, but we will discuss the function and operation of the industrial machine, the serger/overlock machine, and the pattern projector, as well.

The class will cover some commonly used sewing terms and an overview of machine sewing. There will be a demonstration of how to thread a sewing machine and a bobbin, and you will learn some common stitches and their uses. We will go over how to troubleshoot some common issues, and then you will have a chance to use your new skills to sew a simple project: making a drawstring bag!

Supplies for the sewing project will be provided in class.
