Contemporary Weaving & Tāniko
Join tutor Poto Morgan for a six‑week creative journey into the art of contemporary weaving.
In this hands-on course, you’ll learn essential weaving techniques and gain an understanding of traditional tāniko patterns, while creating two tāniko‑inspired wall hangings using modern materials. This fun, dynamic class is perfect for beginners and those looking to grow their skills in this beautiful Indigenous artform.

Course Details

- Experienced tutor
- All materials provided
- Create two completed wall hangings over six weeks
- Dates: Wednesday 25 February – Wednesday 01 April
- Cost: $60 per person
- For participants 16 years and older
Come and weave, learn, and connect in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Bring a kai to share each week.

As a not-for-profit organisation, NGĀ ART (Te Whare Toi o Ngaaruawaahia) relies on grants, community funding, and donations to keep our classes affordable and accessible for everyone in our community. This programme is generously subsidised thanks to funding support from TEC (Tertiary Education Commission) to assist with literacy and numeracy needs of our participants. Available to persons 16yrs and over. You must attend 80% of the classes. At the same time we hope you will learn other useful and interesting skills and have a lot of fun learning with us.
