Using the lens of the All Learners Network High Leverage Concepts, this course will explore specialized instruction and interventions in Math focused on supporting struggling learners in the K-5th grade classrooms. Day 1 is an introduction to the Specialized Math Instruction content offered through All Learners Network. We will explore formative assessment, the use of data/student work to inform decisions and progress monitoring as well as targeted interviews to help develop a robust understanding of our students as math learners. Throughout this course we will engage in math, use models and consider development of tasks for students. Day 2 focuses on vertical alignment of Models and Strategies that support students’ development of important mathematics. This workshop also supports participants’ introduction and use of a Balanced Math Block to invite all learners’ exploration of effective models and strategies. We will analyze student work to inform instructional decisions and progress monitoring to help develop a robust understanding of our students as math learners. Throughout this course we will engage in math, use models and consider development of tasks for students.
