Irish Sailing National Powerboat Course (Level 2)  (Full Weekend Feb 7/8)

Description

The aim of this course is to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to safely, and effectively, skipper an open powerboat, by day, on inland and coastal waters with which the user is familiar.

This Course is ideal for participants wishing to qualify as Instructors or expand their knowledge and skills.

This course is for Console Powerboat and Tiller.

Participants must be over 16.'

Location

All course take place at the Galway Bay Sailing Club, Renville, H91 W678 unless otherwise specified.

Perquisites

Participants must be over 16 years of age.

  • Manoeuvering while on a Plane
  • Leaving and Coming Aside
  • Navigation and Pilotage
  • Regulations
  • Rope Work
  • Safety on Board
  • Man over Board

Qualification

On competition of this course you will receive a Irish Sailing Level 2 Powerboat Certificate accreditation.


Checklick

The Irish Sailing provided Checklick system is used to capture the progress of participants.

If you wish for you our your child's progress to be recorded and evaluated then you must create a Checklick (Passport) account.

Previous knowledge or experience

While desirable no previous experience required.

Medical Conditions

You must inform in advance if the participant has any know medical conditions, special needs and or behavior considerations that we should be aware of and or that would impact there ability to participate safely in all the activities.

Equipment

Buoyancy aids are provided by GBSC. Appropriate foul weather gear is advisable.

Good coat, rain pants, boots, hat , gloves, sun glasses etc,

Footwear

Sandals, Flip Flops, Crocs or other similar open shoes are NOT recommended.

We recommend Runners, Aqua Shoes or Wetsuit Boots.

On the Day

Please bring:

    • Your Coat, Pullups and Boots
    • Hat, Gloves
    • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses.
    • Warm dry clothing for when you come out of the water.
    • A notebook and pen/pencil (for coursework).
    • Lunch each day (if your course runs for the full day), water, hot drink.

Jewellery

We advise against wearing of jewellery, rings, necklaces etc. during courses as they can be either lost, become entangled and/or lead to injury.

 

Lost, found or stolen

Items left behind will be kept for a period of two week and if not claimed may be disposed of or repurposed thereafter.

​The GBSC cannot accept responsibility for any items lost, stolen or damaged.
