Arts Experience at Loyalist

Course Overview: Capture the beauty of nature through acrylic painting in this hands-on acrylic flowers workshop, designed for beginner and intermediate artists looking to build confidence and strengthen their skills. Over two inspiring days, you will learn how to create realistic floral paintings while exploring techniques that bring depth, softness and detail to your work. With step-by-step instruction and guided demonstrations, you will practice essential acrylic techniques, including colour mixing, brushwork, layering and building realistic light and shadow. You will also learn how to create texture and dimension that help your flowers feel vibrant and lifelike on the canvas.

Throughout the workshop, you will explore a variety of floral subjects, including irises, magnolias, tulips, and trilliums, with a focus on composition and the delicate details that make each bloom unique. Personalized feedback will be provided throughout the session to support your progress and help you develop your own artistic style. You will leave the workshop with finished floral paintings that are uniquely yours, plus the skills and confidence to continue exploring realistic flower painting with acrylics.

Important Notes:

• Workshop price: $200.00. HST is not included in the price.
• This course takes place at the Port Hope Campus: 10 Pine St S, Port Hope, ON L1A 3E7
• Campus information, including room number, parking, directions, etc., will be provided closer to the start date.
• A refund (less $20.00 administrative fee) will be issued if you withdraw from a class at least 14 days before the start date of the class. After this deadline, no refunds will be issued.
• If a course is cancelled by Loyalist College, registered students will be provided with a full refund. College decisions to cancel a course will be made 14 days before the course start date.

Supply List:

• Suggested paint colours: Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow Light, Magenta, White, Black, Sap Green, Purple, Ultramarine Blue, or Thalo Blue. Any other colours as desired.
• Brushes: ¼” flat, 1” flat, detail brush, #2 or #3 etc. Others as desired.
• Palette knife optional for colour mixing.
• Canvas: 11” x 14 (value pack of seven often available at Michaels)
• Palette: foam plates, or sta-wet palette, or other available to you.
• 2 water containers
• Paper towels
• Hair dryer
• Pencil
• Soft eraser
