The goal of Discovering the Ausable: An Aquatic Stewardship Program is to introduce high school aged youth to a broad spectrum of aquatic ecology and watershed stewardship concepts while nurturing a love for the outdoors. We aim to provide a course that is fun, safe, and educational. This course will take us to many exciting locations within the Ausable River watershed, from the summit of Mt. Jo to tumbling waterfalls and cool pools of abundant wildlife. With the help of experts students will be introduced to water quality monitoring, aquatic ecosystems, watershed science, and more!
For the first class this Aquatic Stewardship Program will meet at the Adirondack Loj, located at 1002 Adirondack Loj Road, Lake Placid, NY 12946. The program will be led by ADK’s Education Department staff and Ausable Freshwater Center staff. Parents or guardians should plan on meeting with the program leaders at designated locations by 9:30 am. Parents are welcome to stay for each class but are not required to.
For each class students should be prepared to spend the whole time outside. Please make sure your student comes prepared with proper clothing, extra layers, a lunch, snacks, and plenty of water.
