The Map & Compass Fundamentals course is a great refresher course or the perfect place to learn the basics of field navigation. This course will be held indoors, with a few outdoor activities. Participants should come dressed for unpredictable weather. The class will run until approximately 3:00pm, and parking is included for course participants. We’ll discuss map interpretation, compass use, declination, triangulation, backcountry travel, and how to follow bearings to confidently traverse a landscape. This program will be led by one or more of ADK’s Education Department staff.

Prior hiking experience is recommended. No previous map and compass experience is required.
