Science & Beginner Claymation

Rising 3rd-5th Graders

June 22-26, 2026

9:00am-3:30pm

12 Students

Dee Dee Carleton & Jarae Porter

Class Description:

This camp is a hands-on exploration of nature and science journaling combined with beginning claymation. Dee Dee will start the day guiding the students through scientific experimentation and observation. They will compile their work using drawing techniques in an artistically created journal. Jarae will take over the afternoons introducing students to stop motion animation using iPads and modeling clay, working in small groups to create short films. Throughout the day, students will break for outdoor and social time. Students will be amazed at what they can create by hand and with the help of technology.

All projects are specifically designed to accommodate students of all skill levels and can be adjusted accordingly to meet each student's specific needs. No prior art or stop motion experience is needed.

Teacher Bios:

Dee Dee is currently a high school teacher at IDEA College Prep in Kyle Texas. She teaches AP Environmental Science. Her three main passions in life are science, education, and art. She is always looking for opportunities to mix the 3, from her time studying science education in her M.S. program to her classroom. She has always been artistic, and in her spare time she is always drawing, sewing, crocheting or learning a new art form. She is looking forward to blending science and art into some amazing Summer camps at projectART.

Jarae has 28 years of teaching experience, in grades 2-4, as well as Reading and Math Intervention for K-5. She is certified in Early Education-8th Grade, ESL, with an additional Reading certification, 1-8. In Austin ISD, she was the Campus Dyslexia Designee, in charge of testing students and training teachers. She has taught in Austin, Kyle, and now Wimberley for the last eight years.
