Leslie Tharp & Dee Dee Carleton
Class Description:
In this hands-on class, students explore the world through photography in the morning with Leslie, learning composition, perspective, and creative techniques to capture images of people, objects, and nature. In the afternoon Dee Dee and the students will dive into STEAM challenges that encourage hands-on problem solving, design, and movement-based activities. From building and engineering to experimenting with materials, students collaborate, think critically, and stay active while making their ideas come to life. This full-day class sparks curiosity, creativity, and confidence while connecting observation, innovation, and playful exploration.
All projects are specifically designed to accommodate students of all skill levels and can be adjusted accordingly to meet each student's specific needs. No prior art experience is needed.
Teacher Bios:
Leslie has been teaching for 16 years and is the art teacher at Danforth Junior High in Wimberley ISD. She graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with a specialization in Digital and Photographic Imaging.
Dee Dee is currently a high school teacher at IDEA College Prep in Kyle Texas. She teaches AP Environmental Science. Her three main passions in life are science, education, and art. She is always looking for opportunities to mix the 3, from her time studying science education in her M.S. program to her classroom. She has always been artistic, and in her spare time she is always drawing, sewing, crocheting or learning a new art form.
