Health insurance is required to participate in the program.
This trip demands a high level of physical fitness in order to complete it within the available daylight hours. ADK reserves the right to deny participation if group safety will be compromised through an individual's participation.
This two-day backpacking trip to Mt. Marshall (elevation 4,360’, 15.5 miles round-trip with approximately 2,500’ of elevation gain) is a cooperative group camping experience. The trip will be led by one or more of ADK’s Education Department staff, who are all NYS Licensed Guides and experienced, professional outdoor educators.
Please plan on meeting at ADK’s Adirondak Loj Great Room at 12:30pm, located at 1002 Adirondack Loj Road, Lake Placid, NY 12946. Please be packed and have already had lunch. We’ll go through introductions, a trip overview, and divvy up group gear at the Loj before heading out on our journey to our campsite.
Our tentative itinerary is as follows: On Day 1, we’ll hike 4 miles from the Adirondak Loj trailhead to a campsite at or near Indian Pass Brook. On Day 2, we’ll hike to the summit of Mt. Marshall, return to camp to pack up and head out of the woods for a total of 9.5 miles. Plans are subject to change due to weather, trail conditions, and numerous other factors. This trip will be physically demanding, especially if the weather is poor. Be ready for long days and tired feet.
ADK will provide all group equipment (stoves, fuel bottles, cook sets, first aid kit, etc.) and bear canisters. Breakfasts and dinners will also be provided by ADK. Participants are expected to provide their own lunches, snacks and their own personal equipment. Items should be small in size in order to fit into bear canisters for overnight storage. Please let us know well in advance if you require any equipment.
Prior High Peak hiking experience is highly suggested. Good physical condition, proper clothing, and proper equipment are a must.
