Description

Discover the joy of potholder weaving in this hands-on beginner class using a classic 7” potholder loom. While you may have woven rudimentary potholders in camp as a child, you will learn that potholder weaving is a fiber art form in itself and a very portable craft to take with you wherever you go. This class introduces the basics of potholder weaving in a fun, relaxed, and creative environment—no prior experience required.

Participants will learn how to set up the loom, weave loops in simple patterns, finish their potholders neatly, and explore color combinations. By the end of the class, each student will complete two colorful, functional potholders to take home.

All materials will be provided, and step-by- step guidance to create the potholders will be given. Whether an experienced weaver or a novice, this class is a great introduction to the fiber art of potholder weaving and a wonderful way to unplug, create with your hands, and enjoy the satisfaction of making something from start to finish in a short time period.

A resource list to continue the craft after class will be shared. Eleven loop colors will be made available from which to choose; potholders in the pictures are examples of patterns that can be made in the class with the colors available. One potholder will be a tabby weave, another will be a basketweave. Two binding off techniques will be taught.

Prerequisites for participants:

  • No experience is required.
Materials to be provided by/additional instructions for students:
  • Required to wear a mask if having symptoms of a cold or respiratory illness.
  • Please bring a lunch or snack if you would like. Access to a refrigerator and a microwave are available in the building.
