Arts Experience at Loyalist

Course Overview: Explore the bountiful blooms of summer and their vibrant colour and light using transparent watercolours that glow. Participants will learn the fundamental skills, techniques and approaches for painting transparent, impressionistic watercolours. This includes drawing, colour mixing and foundational watercolour techniques such as graded wash, flat wash, wet on wet and dry on dry. This workshop will also help students strengthen their ability to capture floral subjects by understanding floral anatomy and learning to see correct values, creating successful watercolour paintings. Step-by-step instructions are provided from the initial sketch through to the finished work. Each day includes full demonstrations by the instructor, followed by time for participants to start and complete their own paintings.

Skill Level:  All levels will be accommodated.

• Course fee: $400.00 (General) or $365.00 (Senior 55+). HST is not included in the price.
• This course takes place at the Port Hope Campus: 10 Pine St S, Port Hope, ON L1A 3E7
• Campus information, including room number, parking, directions, etc., will be provided closer to the start date.
• A refund (less $20.00 administrative fee) will be issued if you withdraw from a class at least 14 days before the start date of the class. After this deadline, no refunds will be issued.
• If a course is cancelled by Loyalist College, registered students will be provided with a full refund. College decisions to cancel a course will be made 14 days before the class start date.

• Watercolour Paper (recommended Arches 140lb cold press)
• Watercolour Paint (recommended minimum 2 sets of primary colours - warm and cool)
• Brushes (1 round large brush - minimum size 14 AND 1 small rigger brush)
• Palette
• Water containers (2-3 recommended - e.g. margerine tub)
• Paper towels
• Masking tape
• Masking fluid
• Pencil/Eraser
• Corrugated Board or any firmer board (for backing watercolour paper)
