Arts Experience at Loyalist

Course Overview: In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the cyanotype printing process, a historic photographic technique known for its rich blue tones and accessible, experimental nature. Designed for beginners and curious creatives alike, the class focuses on building a clear understanding of the process while encouraging playful exploration and creative confidence.

Students will be guided through a series of step-by-step demonstrations that introduce the fundamentals of cyanotype printing and gradually expand into more creative applications. We’ll begin with the essentials, including an overview of materials, safe mixing and handling of chemicals, coating paper and creating initial exposures to sunlight. Participants will then learn how to properly develop, wash, and tone their prints. Throughout the workshop, we will focus on creating dynamic compositions using botanicals, found objects and image negatives. By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a small collection of finished cyanotype prints, a working knowledge of the process and the confidence to continue experimenting with cyanotype printing at home.

• Campus information, including room number, parking, directions, etc., will be provided closer to the start date.
• A refund (less $20.00 administrative fee) will be issued if you withdraw from a class at least 14 days before the start date of the class. After this deadline, no refunds will be issued.
• If a course is cancelled by Loyalist College, registered students will be provided with a full refund. College decisions to cancel a course will be made 14 days before the course start date.
