Gelli Plate Printmaking with Beth James
Course Overview: In this workshop, we’ll explore a variety of playful and dynamic techniques you can use with a gelli plate-- a reusable gelatin-like printing surface for creating unique prints. Students will be guided through four hands-on demos designed to build a solid understanding of how this versatile tool works and how to achieve beautiful results. We’ll begin with the essentials: how to apply paint and pull your first print, register your paper for clean layers, and build up multiple layers on a single page. From there, we’ll move into more creative territory by experimenting with image transfers, exploring botanical printing with leaves and natural textures, and painting directly onto the plate to create one-of-a-kind monoprints. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a small collection of prints, a handful of new techniques, and a stronger sense of how to keep exploring and experimenting at home.
