Arts Experience at Loyalist

Course Overview: Create a nest in a painterly and expressive folk style while learning the basics of traditional rug hooking. This environmentally responsible and time-honoured craft is both a historic practice and a source of contemporary artwork and treasured heirlooms. Working from a hand-drawn pattern on linen designed by the artist, participants will learn the step-by-step process of building a nest, twig by twig. As the work develops, students will explore how to add depth and shading through thoughtful use of loops and colour. The workshop also introduces Hit and Miss hooking, a traditional technique that uses leftover wool artfully and honours the roots of rug hooking. This workshop is suitable for beginners and those who have taken an introductory class. Over two fun and supportive days, participants will learn essential techniques through group demonstrations and one-on-one guidance in a welcoming, creative environment.

• Workshop price: $224.00. HST is not included in the price.
• Material fee of $56.00 is included in the price. 
• This course takes place at the Belleville Campus: 376 Wallbridge Loyalist Rd, Belleville, ON K8N 5B9.
• Campus information, including room number, parking, directions, etc., will be provided closer to the start date.
• A refund (less $20.00 administrative fee) will be issued if you withdraw from a class at least 14 days before the start date of the class. After this deadline, no refunds will be issued.
• If a course is cancelled by Loyalist College, registered students will be provided with a full refund. College decisions to cancel a course will be made 14 days before the course start date.
