Savings and Investing 101: Not just for the rich
Class fee is on a sliding scale of $10-$30, with suggested amount of $15, tea and sweets included!
Investing isn't just for rich people! Saving and investing is the key to building a more secure and stable future, whether that's for your retirement, supporting aging family, or building a college fund. This kind of long term saving is like planting a garden. It takes time, patience, and planning.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the counter-intuitive power of compounding interest on savings
- Address the emotional difficulty of long term investing
- Understand the difference among assets, accounts, and types of institutions involved in investing
- How to meaningfully start with $25/week
It's very important that you have a good idea of your actual cashflow throughout the year so that you can know exactly how much you can afford to plant in your garden each month without needing to pull up those seedlings early when an unexpected bill crops up. I offer Personal Finance 101 and 102 monthly, so I highly recommend taking those if you'd like some more structure getting there. Look out for future classes covering benefits and tax planning, debt strategies, managing money as a couple, and more!
