Curious about improv? Each week Queen City Comedy offers a fun, "learn through laughing" approach to building improv skills! Each Saturday, we’ll explore a key improv principle through simple games and exercises, while you build confidence and creativity. Whether you have improv experience and want to build new skills, or you are new and ready to learn — just bring yourself and a willingness to laugh and play!
Different skill focus each week:
- Physicality 101
- Organic-group game
- Discovery vs creation
- Scene tools and edits
About Your Instructor: Through the last twenty years of improvising, Joe Carroll has honed in on a playstyle that utilizes clown, true-to-life storytelling, movement, mime, immersive theater, and spoken word. He believes strongly in the power of play to free oneself of the crippling mores, prejudices, rote information, and static frames of reference; to access the part of ourselves that functions free of the need for approval and disapproval. He has been teaching improv for the last ten years in Asheville NC at Misfit Improv School, AIC, and the Black Mountain Center for the Arts. He has had extensive training with Annoyance, IO Chicago, NC Comedy Arts, as well as clown training with Clash on Clark, and Elysian Theater.
