The Poetry of Place: A Nature Writing Workshop
We all know the feeling—when we hear the call of a loon or the sun breaks from behind the mountains just right, and some wiser inner-knowing is released. In this two-hour, all-levels writing workshop, North Country poet and journalist Natalli Amato will guide participants on how to channel their Adirondack experiences into meaningful poetry. We will begin by reading and discussing poems of place by masters of the craft, like Mary Oliver and Ada Limon. Then, participants will be led through a short, guided meditation to help deepen their connection to their own poetic voice and place of inspiration. We will spend the rest of our time together writing original poetry inspired by prompts—cycling between writing and sharing with the group. We will close our time with a discussion on how to make poetry writing a part of our everyday lives as lovers of the natural world. No writing experience needed!
The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) welcomes people of all backgrounds and is committed to fostering a safe space for everyone to learn.
