Raku Firing!
Raku Firing at NW Ceramics for Second Friday!
$45 includes, clay, glaze and firing.
Please have your piece bisque fired and glazed by Wednesday, March 11th. The firing will begin in the afternoon and pots will be ready to removed at 5:30pm. Participants do not need to be present until about 5pm to prepare for the reduction but welcome to be there all afternoon!
In this one day workshop, participants will experience the ceramic art of Raku, an exciting firing that involves removing the ceramics from a kiln at the height of firing. Students can choose to a naked (unglazed) Raku piece and apply horsehair or feathers to create different effects on the unglazed surface. Participants who choose to glaze will achieve a metallic surface on their finished item. Please note, Raku ware is not food safe. One formed piece usually fire better in comparison to pieces that have multiple slab built seams.
