Abstracted Landscapes with Steve Rose

Course Overview: This workshop invites participants to explore abstracted landscape painting through both contemporary and historical influences. Drawing inspiration from artists working in Cornwall, UK and painters from the San Francisco Bay Area from the mid-20th century to the present, participants will examine how landscape can be reinterpreted through abstraction, colour and expressive form. Lecture segments will provide artistic context, inspiration and motivation throughout the workshop. Students will receive individual guidance as they develop their own works in progress, with instruction supporting concept development, process, technique, colour relationships and composition. The workshop encourages participants to engage with the long-standing tradition of landscape painting while reimagining it through a contemporary lens.
