TEACHING & LEARNING WEEK: The UWI AI Policy Framework - Orientation
Mon, Mar 16, 2026, 9:30 – 11:00 AM GMT-4
Online Learning (Synchronous)
This orientation introduces The UWI Artificial Intelligence Policy Framework v1.8, a strategic roadmap designed to help faculty integrate AI responsibly into teaching, learning, and research.
The session focuses on the critical operational areas: maintaining academic integrity, fostering learning and adaptation, driving research innovation, ensuring equity and inclusion, protecting data privacy, upholding transparency, and enhancing operational efficiencies. To move from theory to practice, participants will be introduced to a CETL-designed instructional artefact (decision tree and scenario training), to assist faculty to navigate complex ethical and pedagogical choices.
Through interactive discussions on real-world implementation across various disciplines, faculty will use this tool to clarify expectations for both staff and students while developing course-specific policies. The orientation concludes by highlighting the support mechanisms available through the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), providing a clear path for ongoing consultation and professional development.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this orientation session, participants should be able to:
- Explain how the seven operational areas of The UWI AI Policy Framework inform the responsible integration of AI into teaching, learning, and research.
- Identify appropriate institutional support mechanisms and resources for developing course-specific AI policies.
