Have you been wanting to hike your first High Peak in the Adirondacks, but have something holding you back? Are you looking to get back into hiking this summer after a hiatus? We want YOU to join us for the Novice to High Peak Hiker series! In this trilogy of hikes, join an ADK hiking guide and naturalist to scaffold your skills and knowledge so you're confident and ready to tackle High Peaks. On the trails, we will explore naturalist topics such as Adirondack flora, fauna, geology, and more!
In session 1, we will meet at the Education Yurt for a mini lesson on the principles of Leave No Trace, hiking gear, and how to be properly prepared for hiking adventures. Then we will caravan down the road to hike Mt Van Hoevenberg via South Meadows (elevation 2860', 4.2 miles round trip with approximately 1,000' elevation gain).
In session 2, we will meet at the Rooster Comb parking lot in Keene to hike the slightly lesser known, but deeply beautiful Hopkins Mountain (elevation 3,156', 4.4 miles round trip with approximately 2,100' elevation gain).
In session 3, we will be back at Heart Lake to take on the 16th tallest High Peak, Wright Mountain (elevation 4,580', 7.1 miles round trip with approximately 2,600' elevation gain).
Health insurance is required to participate in the program.
This trip demands a high level of physical fitness in order to complete it within the available daylight hours. ADK reserves the right to deny participation if group safety will be compromised through an individual's participation.
Prior hiking experience is highly recommended. Good physical condition, proper clothing, and proper equipment are a must.
*ADK cannot guarantee a time the guided trip will be completed by.*
