Course description. An outing will be offered on the first, third and fifth Tuesday of each session. These will include two museum trips and four outdoor walks in nature.

Students will convene at the site location. Directions and parking information will be sent out before each class. The museum sites are accessible and seating is readily available. The outdoor walks are more meanderings than hikes. They are designed to accommodate people with mildly impaired mobility. The trails are relatively even and flat.

March 24, Mt Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge 

Site coordinator: Carolyn Cronin 

Founded in 1831, Mt Auburn Cemetery was the catalyst of the American Rural cemetery movement. Known for its beautiful landscape, Funerary art, notable residents, plants and wildlife, a walk in Mt. Auburn is an explorer's paradise. Carolyn will lead us on a meander to see some of the highlights of this 175-acre gem with an emphasis on the famous women and queer folks who are memorialized there.

April 21 Forest Hills Cemetery Jamaica Plain

Site coordinator: Carolyn Cronin 

Founded in 1848, Forest Hills Cemetery predates Boston's Emerald Necklace by 30 years. It's 275 acres contains a pond, waterfalls, sculpture garden, and is the resting place of many historic figures including suffragist Lucy Stone, poets Anne Sexton and e.e.cummings. Using Susan Wilson's guidebook "Garden of Memories" as reference, Carolyn will lead us on a meander to see some of the highlights of this historic garden style-cemetery.

Tuesday, May 5th The Old Schwamb Mill, 17 Mill Ln, Arlington, 02476

The Old Schwamb Mill is an historic 19th-century mill with a documented history of operation dating back to about 1684. We will enjoy a guided tour of the old mill which still produces sound and oval picture frames. After the tour we will walk at the Arlington Reservoir 0.7 miles from the mill. The reservoir trail is a 1.2 mile flat loop around the water.

May 19th Greenwood Park, 176 Pond St, Stoneham, 02180

Greenwood Park in Stoneham is a scenic 2.9-acre park that offers a picturesque setting for walkers and runners. The park features well-maintained paths and trails suitable for various activity levels. This will be a guided nature tour, 1-2 miles in the Fells reservation. Some elevation with some rocks and roots.
