Maximum Students: 3

Duration: 3 hrs

Prerequisites: Intro to the Wood Lathe

Have you taken the Intro to the Wood Lathe course, but hesitate to jump on the tool by yourself for your first project? This class will get you through a basic first project and build confidence in your skills.

Together with two other students, you will each complete one project with your instructor while the others observe and learn with you. A separate project will be chosen by each student from a list of options (pencil holder, bottle opener handle, decorative snowman, hand tool handle, chop stick rest, file handle, decorative knob). Your instructor will assist as needed to deliver a finished product to your satisfaction.

Beyond basic cutting tool use in the context of spindle turning, emphasis will include adjunctive skills such as chuck use, drill press set up of stock, sanding & finishing depending on the project selected. Each student takes their finished project home with them. As an alternative, students are welcome to bring an item to class to make a handle for, such a hammer, file, or small garden tool as their project. This is not a bowl making or twig pot class, though learned skills overlap with those classes.

There is a $15 fee for this class, payable upon enrollment. If you need to cancel your registration after paying, please contact education@rocmakers.org to arrange a refund. We cannot provide refunds for cancellations within 48 hours of class.
